From the Mercury News:
ALAMEDA — Donations are being accepted at a local bank for a reward to help capture two men who mugged an 80-year-old woman and stole her dog and purse as she was out walking on Saturday afternoon.
Along with announcing the reward, police today released the license plate number of the car that the suspects used during the robbery, which happened about 2 p.m. at Encinal Avenue and Fountain Street.
The license number is 3REL215 and the car is described as a blue 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera with a left front quarter panel that may be tan or gray. The four-door vehicle does not have a front plate.
The elderly victim told police that she was walking Deuce, her 5-year-old Yorkshire terrier, when the two men confronted her.
One man simulated having a gun in his pocket as he demanded both her purse and the dog. When the woman refused to comply, one man grabbed the leash and pulled the dog away, while the second man grabbed her purse, police Lt. Sean Lynch said.
The woman suffered a small abrasion on her hand, but declined medical treatment.
Shortly after the robbery the suspects used the woman’s credit cards in Oakland at the Coliseum Shell station near Interstate 880 and at the Valero station on 98th Avenue near Interstate 580, police said.
Both suspects are African-American and between 18 and 22 years old. Both were wearing black hoodies, white T-shirts and bluejeans.
One suspect stands about 5 feet 8 inches tall, weighs between 160 and 180 pounds and has brown eyes and a medium dark complexion. The second man stands between 5 feet 10 inches and 6 feet tall and weighs between 180 and 200 pounds. He also has brown eyes and a medium dark complexion.
Surveillance footage from one service station shows one of the men wearing a red baseball cap.
Deuce is fitted with an identifying microchip implant.
The reward fund has been established for the dog’s return and or the arrest and prosecution of the suspects.
Donations can be made payable to “Deuce Reward” and mailed to Bank of Alameda, 1416 Park St., Alameda, Calif., 94501. The account number is 02017507.
Alameda police ask anyone with information about the robbery or the whereabouts of Deuce to call 510-337-8340.
