There’s an old hackneyed plot favored by authors of early twentieth century adventure stories that when the hero saves a victim’s life, he is alternately permanently responsible for that person’s life or the saved is perpetually indebted to the hero. Today’s post is a “life reflecting art” story . . .
Soldiers in Belarus found a baby squirrel and brought it to the Warrant officer. The squirrel was very weak and about to die. The Warrant officer took care of the tiny creature, keeping it warm and feeding it every 4 hours. The squirrel survived and stayed with the officer who saved his life.
Recently the officer left the army and took a job as a cab driver. He still has his little friend and they go everywhere together – including work.
Thanks to Uncle Bob for sending us this wonderful story!

I need to meet this man! Anyone know who he is and where he is? I know this is crazy but due to my overwhelming love of animals I know we would at least have that in common
. I think this man is truly unbelievable and what he did for this little squirrel captures my heart! Most people would have just walked right by and not given this poor thing in need a second thought. Even if I never meet this man, (which I hope I do and I know what a long shot that is…but as they say nothing ventured nothing gained) from one fellow animal lover and rescuer to another, you are an angel and what you did for this poor baby is really incredible! I know the bond between an animal and an owner is strong, but one that’s been rescued there truly is no stronger bond. Tiffany tacmjs@gmail.com
Why did he leave the army and get a job as a cab driver? Did the squirrel influence him to a life away from army and war related things? seems plausible.
@Tiffany
Putting “interested in men who love squirrels” in your OKCupid profile would /probably/ be easier than trying to email your way into some nutty long-distance relationship.
@Tiffany : according to Huffington post, his name is Pyotr Pankaratau, and he is a cabbie in Minsk.
